The test you just performed measured your speed from your computer to our server at Atcnet.net. Other bandwidth tests you may try using the internet are measured to some other server located somewhere else in the world. Remember, the further away the server the more likely you will measure a lower speed.

DSL speeds are measured from your local computer to a server that hosts the bandwidth meter test software. Because of circuit losses incurred in facilities from our equipment to your home, distance from your home to the server and other internet related losses, your bandwidth speed will never be equal to the DSL circuit speed that you ordered. For example, a 256kb DSL circuit will never measure a full 256kb but will more likely test at 245kb. You may also perform the test 10 times and get 10 different readings.

Download speeds are measured in bytes and bandwidth speeds are measured in bits. Bits are rarely seen alone in computer technology. They are almost always bundled together into 8-bit collections, and these collections are called bytes. For this reason your bandwidth speed will always be reported as approximately 8 times greater than your download speed.
