Steelhead Fishing

Rich Redman, Manager of ATC Communications with one of his steelhead. He caught this beautiful female in the main Salmon River during the fall of 2002. This one was a wild fish and was released to spawn and reproduce. This fish measured over 38 inches and weighed about 18 pounds.  Steelhead are ocean going Rainbow Trout that return to the main Salmon River and it's tributaries to spawn each season. They begin their migration in the summer, and stay in the river during the winter months, lay their eggs in the early spring and return to the ocean. Many of these wild fish never make it back to the ocean because of  the many obstacles they face on their return journey. In addition to the wild fish, there are a number of hatchery raised steelhead that fisherman are allowed to keep each year.
