How to Delete Spam or Junk Emails – So They Never Come Back!

Sick of sorting through email offers to lose weight, borrow money, and win the latest giveaway?  Don’t worry – you’re not alone. Fortunately, we’ve got an easy, simple fix that can help clean up your inbox FOR GOOD.

What, exactly, is SPAM email?

In order to qualify as “SPAM” an email must be:

1)     Unsolicited – the recipient (you) did not grant permission to the sender to email you.

2)     Bulk – the message is part of a larger collection of messages (usually to multiple recipients), all having nearly identical content.

If you know for a fact that you’ve never signed up for a particular newsletter or offer, chances are the email is SPAM.

What’s the difference between SPAM email and JUNK email?

Not all email is SPAM. Lots of emails are legitimate marketing emails – which is not necessarily a bad thing. Legitimate email senders will always have an “Unsubscribe” or “Opt Out” link near the bottom of the page. These emails are probably sent  from a genuine company that you’ve done business with (or a third party affiliation). When marketing emails are no longer of interest to you, they’re often coined as “junk” email.

For example, a legitimate marketing email from ATC will usually include these opt out links:

How do I clean up JUNK and SPAM emails?

Cleaning up junk emails is easier than you think.  Since these are legitimate marketing emails, just click the “Unsubscribe” or “Opt Out” link on the bottom. The FTC CAN-SPAM Act legally requires businesses to honor your opt out request within ten days.

Cleaning up spam emails can be a little trickier since they either don’t have an “opt out” link, or they don’t honor your unsubscribe request.  Thankfully, all ATC email subscribers (email accounts ending in @atcnet.net) have access to ATC’s free spam and virus filtering service called eScout.
