Mechanic / Facilities Maintenance Technician

General Summary

Performs maintenance and repairs on company vehicles, heavy equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, reliable operation across ATC’s service area. Responsibilities include servicing diesel and gasoline vehicles, backhoes, plows, and bore machines; maintaining mechanical systems, environmental systems, HVAC units, and emergency power generators; and performing general building and grounds upkeep at over 20 company buildings in southern Idaho. Supports central office (CO) operations by maintaining AC and DC power systems, ensuring reliable cooling for all CO facilities, and responding promptly to HVAC issues. Uses manuals, diagnostic tools, and technical knowledge to perform in-house repairs where possible, coordinating with outside vendors for major work. Supports field crews with on-site repairs and assists other plant personnel as needed.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs routine maintenance and in-house repairs on company vehicles and heavy equipment (diesel and gasoline trucks, backhoes, plows, bore machines) including oil changes, brake service, tire replacements, alignments, and hydraulic system checks.
  • Diagnoses and repairs mechanical systems using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, hoists, and modern diagnostic systems.
  • Maintains and repairs AC and DC power systems supporting central office equipment.
  • Performs inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems at COs and other facilities to ensure proper cooling and environmental control.
  • Conducts inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on emergency power generators and other mechanical equipment.
  • Maintains buildings and grounds at all company facilities, performing light carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and general repairs as needed.
  • Maintains shop, garage, and work areas; orders parts, tools, and supplies for vehicle, heavy equipment, HVAC, and facility maintenance.
  • Provides on-site assistance for field crews, including emergency breakdown response.
  • Coordinates with outside vendors for specialized or major repair work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance procedures, including diesel and gasoline systems, hydraulic systems, and power transmission.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC power systems and HVAC maintenance.
  • Skill in diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems using modern diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Ability to interpret manuals, charts, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills and professional conduct when working with co-workers, vendors, and the public.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in vehicle, heavy equipment, and/or facilities maintenance; experience with HVAC and power systems preferred.
  • CDL required.
  • Certifications in automotive, diesel, HVAC, or heavy equipment repair preferred
