How does WiFi calling work?
WiFi calling is a great alternative if your phone provider’s coverage is spotty or if there is an outage. WiFi calling acts just like a regular phone call – you dial a phone number as you would normally the only difference is your calls are routed over a WiFi network instead of your phone service provider’s network. See below for instructions on how to enable WiFi calling on your phone:
Android WiFi Calling
Important: You may incur additional charges for making calls over WiFi, so check with your mobile service provider for details.
- Open the Phone app .
- Tap More > Settings.
- Tap Calls.
- Tap WiFi calling. If you can’t see this option, it will be because your operator doesn’t support this feature.
- You can use WiFi calling without a service on some operators.
- If your operator doesn’t offer WiFi calling, you can still use this feature through a voice-over IP service.
Once you’ve set up WiFi calling, you can make a call over WiFi just as you would any other call. When you’re connected to the Internet, you’ll see ‘Internet call’ or ‘WiFi calling’ on the notification screen.
iPhone WiFi Calling
- Go to Settings > Cellular.
- If your iPhone has Dual SIM, choose a line (below SIMs).
- Tap WiFi Calling, then turn on WiFi Calling on This iPhone.
- Enter or confirm your address for emergency services.
Note: Emergency calls on your iPhone are routed through cellular service when available. In the event that cellular service isn’t available, and you have enabled WiFi Calling, emergency calls may be made over WiFi, and your device’s location information may be used for emergency calls to aid response efforts, regardless of whether you enable Location Services. Some carriers may use the address you registered with the carrier when signing up for WiFi Calling as your location. When connected to WiFi calling, your iPhone may not receive emergency alerts.
